MY ECO INTERNSHIP 10/2003
My internship at the Environmental Communities Organization (ECO) has been a great opportunity to become more aware of environmental concerns as well as to become better equipped for my future career. Also, I was able to meet some interesting individuals (cool peeps) who all shared a passion for humanity and the environment. There was Christa, the Campaign Director, who would give Marge Schott a running for the biggest Reds fan. Then there's Mike, the only guy I know that is able to run 10 miles before working all day to keep the rivers clean, and everyone else who is willing to apply their energies into cause that they believe in. My project consisted primarily of determining pollution control solutions for AK Steel. Through the duration of my internship I was able to become well educated in the steel production processes and how the environment is affected. The first days of the internship I became quickly aware of the problem that AK posed to both the people of Middletown and the environment. It took the first couple week to gain a good understanding of the steelmaking process. Thereafter, I was able determine possible improvements which AK could implement to reduce their pollution. At the end of the day it's rewarding to think that what you did makes a difference.
